Congratulations to Head Coach Mike Szabo and the Trinity Basketball Rocks. On Tuesday evening at Fairdale High School, Trinity captured its second King of the Bluegrass (KOB) championship with a 73-69 win over Berkmar (Georgia). On their way to the KOB championship Trinity defeated Cooper, Fern Creek and Covington Catholic, all ranked in the top-10 in Kentucky polls. In just the last 12 years, Trinity has advanced to the championship game of this nationally recognized holiday tournament on five different occasions, winning the event in 2009 and finishing as runners-up in 2004, 2013 and 2015. Sophomore David Johnson was named the tournament MVP, while senior Lucas Burkman was named to the KOB all-tournament team.
The win improved the Rocks’ season record to 8-1, and will likely move the team to a #1 statewide ranking in polls.
After taking time off for Christmas, the Basketball Rocks head to another nationally recognized tournament in Tennessee – the Arby’s Classic, to be held between December 27 and January 1.
Go Basketball Rocks!
