Office News

Thursday, August 31 will be a dress down day for Catholic Relief Services. All money collected will go to support Hurricane Harvey Relief in Texas. Please bring in $1 or more to support relief services. Refer to your Student Manual for more information on what to wear during a casual dress day.

A message from Academic Services: The deadline for changing electives is September 1.  Ms. Browning and Mr. Jackson are available by appointment during Advising as well as before or after school.

What: Rockin’ – a day for freshmen filled with fun and games and time to get to know the others in your House.

Date: Wednesday, September 6

Dress: House t-shirt – if you did not pick one up at registration, see your House Director.

Students can wear tennis shoes for Rockin’.

Athletic shorts, jeans and khaki pants are all acceptable. There is a chance of getting dirty so you should not wear good school pants. You will be outside and active all day, so dress appropriately.

Stuff: You do not need to bring anything with you to school on that day. No backpacks, homework or school books are necessary. You will need to leave loose items like lanyards, keys, and cell phones at home or locked in your locker. Nothing should be in your pockets as there is a good chance it will get lost.

Food: Lunch is provided free-of-charge. You will not need money or a bagged lunch that day.

The following colleges will be visiting Trinity next week:

  • Tuesday, September 5: Davidson College, University of Kentucky, and JCTC
  • Wednesday, September 6: University of Tennessee, Vanderbilt University, and Keiser University
  • Thursday, September 7: Washington University St. Louis, Nova Southeastern University, Marian University, Indiana University Bloomington

Horatio Alger College Scholarships available. Scholarship amounts range from $6,000-$25,000. Contact Mr. Manning to see if you are eligible to apply. Deadline: October 25.

Activity News

If you are interested in ping pong, you can join the Ping Pong Club. The Ping Pong Club meets every other Thursday from 3:10 to 4:10 in Convocation Hall. Please sign up with Mr. CM, ASAP in room F134. The Ping Pong Club will meet this Thursday, August 31 in Convocation Hall, after school, from 3 to 4 p.m.

Want to change the world? Learn how with the Future Problem Solving team. The FPS team meets during Advising this Thursday in the library. See Mr. Jones for more details.

If you enjoy learning about or discussing history, politics, world cultures, geography, psychology, sociology, or all of the above, you should consider joining Trinity’s new Social Studies National Honor Society: Rho Kappa. Qualified applicants should have completed four semesters of Social Studies courses, have a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and have a 3.0 GPA in their Social Studies classes. If you believe you meet these requirements and would like to join Rho Kappa, please see Mr. Napper in room F334 for more information.

Look around you. You are surrounded by a world full of electronics. But, how does it all work? Would you like to gain more insight into this subject? If so, sign up for the Electronics Club with Mr. CM in F134. This hands-on club includes activities like soldering and de-soldering components, and the assembly of small circuits for various applications. In the process you can learn some of the basics of electricity and electronics. The Electronics club will meet Monday, August 28 in Mr. CM’s room, F134, after school, from 3 to 4 p.m.

Are you creative? Do you enjoy working with your hands and operating dangerous power tools? Of course you do! That’s why you should join Mr. Hull’s Woodworking Club. Beginning September 13, we will meet every other Wednesday from 3 – 4 in Mr. Hull’s room, C173. Gain confidence and experience as we create artistic woodwork using scroll saws, table saws, miter saws, drill presses, belt sanders, routers, and much more. Contact Mr. Hull directly; we are taking a maximum of eight students.

Do you like speaking in front of others? Do you enjoy debating hot button topics? If so, you should join the award winning Speech and Debate team. There will be a NEW MEMBER meeting on Monday, August 28 for anyone interested in joining the Speech and Debate team this year. The meeting will start at 3 p.m. in Miss Zuccaro’s room, F233.  Returning members, we will meet on August 29 after school.

Attention Cricket Club: The first meeting of the Cricket Club will take place in Shamrock Hall on August 29, after school, from 3 to 4 p.m. There is still some room for new members. If you are interested in learning this new game, why not give it a try tomorrow. The Cricket Club will meet every Tuesday.

There will be a Quick Recall team meeting on Tuesday, August 29, at 3:00 in F331. Students of ANY grade level are encouraged to attend. No prior experience necessary.

Trinity’s Audio Production Club will meet on Tuesdays beginning August 29 right after school.  This hands-on group explores music recording techniques as well as digital-audio-editing software. Be in the music room on Tuesday afternoons if interested. It’s all about that bass!

The Axiom will have its first official meeting on Tuesday, August 29, after school in Ms. Flipper’s room, S356. Students interested in being part of the magazine should attend or see Ms. Flipper if you can’t.

Anyone interested in Video Game Club please stop by D222 and sign up any time before, during, or after the school day sometime this week.  The first after-school-gaming day is this coming Tuesday, Aug. 29.

Attention gaming enthusiasts. REBOOT!! Trinity’s Dungeons and Dragons Club, is now Greenwell’s Glorious Gaming Group. While the group will will still host D&D, it will also be welcome Yu-gi-oh as well as other card and board game enthusiasts. The club will meet Fridays from 2-4:30. Everyone of any skill level and interest is welcome! For more information, see Mr. Greenwell in S355.

The first Beta Club meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 5 at 3:05 in Convocation Hall. This meeting is for all Beta Club members, including new members who signed up last spring. Yearbook photos will be taken and important information will be handed out about Service Hours and Service Opportunities. Please make plans to attend. If everyone is on time, the meeting should be done by 3:20.

Are you interested in flying, airplanes, flight simulators and rockets? Then you may consider joining the Tim’s Flying Club. The club will meet every other week on Thursdays. If interested, sign up with Mr. C.M. in room F134 after school. The first meeting will be on Sept 7.

Dunk Club’s next Sky Zone trip is Friday, September 8, after school. Meet in Ms. Flipper’s room, S356. See Ms. Flipper before Sept. 7 if you need a ride. You need to complete permission forms for Trinity, even if you did them last year, and need to complete Sky Zone’s online waiver. Cost is $13 + $2 for Sky Zone socks if you don’t have them.

Students, if you feel that a career in architecture, engineering or construction work may be in your future, then the ACE is just for you. What is ACE? ACE mentoring program provides students with an opportunity to collaborate and learn from professionals in the field of design and construction. Experts will share advice and valuable skills about what’s needed to be successful.  You will also complete an actual project and have the chance to make good contacts and earn scholarship money at the end of the process. If you are interested in learning more about ACE, then please see Mr. CM in F134. Also, those students who were in the program last year need to reconfirm their interest by signing up again. The ACE Club will meet every other Wednesday, and the first meeting will be early next month.

Athletic News

The first practice for the Barbell Club will be Monday, August 28  at 4:15.

Anyone interested in joining the wrestling team should see Coach Fleming at lunch on Wednesday. He will have a table setup throughout all lunch periods. Details of the season will be given at this time.

Are you interested in trying out for the basketball team and not involved in any fall sports? If so, you are welcome to participate in open gym on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in Steinhauser Gym starting Sept. 7.  Open gym will run every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. until Oct. 10. To participate you must be properly dressed in basketball attire and have indoor basketball shoes.

The 2017 Varsity Soccer Rocks won their Saturday afternoon home clash 2-0 against Male Traditional High School, improving their record to 3-0. The Soccer Rocks scored seven minutes into the match when left back Nolan Durbin snuck through the Male defense in clandestine fashion to slam home a Brandon McManus dish from close range. The Soccer Rocks were unable to strike gold again until very late in the game when Brandon McManus found Noah Murr with a diagonal pass behind the Male defense who slotted home the final tally of the evening. The Soccer Rocks must rest up for this coming week as they play Lexington Catholic (away on Tuesday), Atherton (home on Thursday) and then Ft. Thomas Highlands (home on Saturday).  Come on out and join in the fun supporting your Soccer Rocks. Go Rocks! Take State!
