Service Opportunities

Students, of the MANY service opportunities posted outside Campus Ministry, here are two that need immediate help:

Fox Hollow Farm’s Festival (click link)

Touched Twice Clinic:

Where and when:

Where: the St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 319 Browns Lane.

When: Sat., Oct. 21, 2017, any hours students are available between 9:30 and 3:30.

The clinic runs from 10:00 AM -2:00 PM and we need volunteers to work during those times as well as during clean-up which will last until around 3:30.

What is Touched Twice Clinic is:

The goal of the clinic is to offer services to uninsured and under-insured people. Each client receives a bag of groceries, a visit to the clothing closet, a free lunch and then selects three additional services which vary somewhat from year to year. These other services usually include, but are not limited to medical, hearing and dental evaluations, legal consultation, haircuts and family photos.

Where we need volunteers:

We need the most help from volunteers to work as Shepherds and to help with Clean-up:

  • Shepherds:   A Shepherd meets the Client in the sanctuary and then takes the Client to each of the services the Client has indicated s/he wants. Students who can speak another language, even if not fluent, are encouraged to be Shepherds. Training for Shepherds is at 8:30 A.M. and that includes a tour of the building so the Volunteer is familiar with where services are offered.
  • Food Pantry: we need a few strong people to help Clients carry their grocery bags to their vehicles
  • Clean-up: we need 20 people to work from 1:30 -3:30 in helping with clean-up. Students may work during the day and then switch to Clean-up or just come in for the Clean-up hours.

Other areas that might need help: general assistance, children’s area, dining room

We will assign volunteers but will also try to honor specific requests.
