Last week members of the Speech and Debate team traveled to Gatlinburg, TN to compete in the Smoky Mountain Invitational hosted by Carson-Newman University. The Rocks represented Trinity and Kentucky well with four Rocks advancing past preliminary rounds.
Freshman Gus Boyer advanced to quarterfinals in Declamation while senior Teddy Dentinger advanced to quarters in Humorous Interpretation. This placed both in the top 24 of their respective events in the tournament. Senior Jacob Romines and junior Cooper Winrich advanced the the semifinal round of Impromptu Speaking, placing both in the top 12. Winrich also advanced to finals in Extemporaneous Speaking and claimed third place overall.
With this success, Gus Boyer also earned membership to the National Speech and Debate Association, a national honors society for speech and debate students.
