Blessings in a Backpack is a non-profit organization that mobilizes communities, individuals and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry. Blessings strives to ensure children do not go hungry on the weekends by empowering individuals and communities to take action. As of December 2019, they are currently feeding over 87,000 children in 1,092 schools in 45 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.
This year, through early December, Blessings held a food drive for Mill Creek Elementary School at Trinity. The drive was led by current students Michael Chou, Matthew Chou, Nicholas Huls and Jack McClellan. The guys took FOUR CARLOADS of donated food to Blessings in a Backpack. In a couple of months, the guys are excited to use this same platform to collect gently used school-age books for Engelhard Elementary School.
“We are incredibly thankful for all the donations from our community. It’s always exciting to ask our community for food and books because they always come back with more than we could have possibly expected. The Trinity community has made us proud and helped to feed countless students in our community.”
- Nick Huls
“Everyone’s kind donations will go a long way towards helping families in need this holiday season. We cannot thank the Trinity community enough for helping us make this food drive such a success.”
- Jack McClellan
