Recent Trinity Grad Pursuing Degree in Madrid

Trinity alum, Leo Borders ’19, right, knew he wanted to do something different for college, and when he discovered SLU-Madrid, thanks to Mr. Budniak and a mission trip he took at Trinity, his decision was made! “I knew I wanted to attend a unique college from the beginning of my application process. I was looking for certain criteria and when I discovered SLU-Madrid, it immediately became my top choice. Thinking back on it, my choice to go to Spain for college was definitely influenced by my sophomore year mission tip to Nicaragua led by Mr. Budniak. It was at this point I started to love Spanish, and I soon became motivated to learn the language.”

“Trinity played a huge role in my decision to go to college in Spain. The mission trip was a start, but I had many classes that grew my interest in attending school abroad. Mr. Coverdale’s World History class sparked my interests in global affairs and Ms. Martin’s Spanish IV class taught me my foundation of Spanish.”

Since Leo became acclimated to the culture, he says he’s having an absolute blast! “Life in Madrid has been incredible. Everywhere I go, there is so much history to explore, my Spanish skills are improving, and the food is delicious, but I’m DEFINITELY still adjusting to eating at 9 p.m.!”

“My favorite part of the school year is the travel. It’s surreal visiting a museum in person and seeing first-hand some of the art that I learned about in Spanish or Art History class. I’m looking forward to continuing to learn the Spanish language and adapting to Spanish culture. I am an International Business and Spanish major and I plan to graduate in four years. I can’t thank Trinity enough for preparing me for this opportunity!”
