Trinity High School Announces 2021 Football Schedule
Trinity High School, the 2020 KHSAA 6A state champion, and 27-time football state champion, announces its 2021 varsity football schedule (The freshman and JV schedules will be announced later). Trinity Defensive Coordinator Jay Cobb becomes the 11th Football Head Coach in school history due to the retirement of Head Coach Bob Beatty after 21 years. Cobb originally joined the Trinity coaching staff in 2014. The schedule will feature top-caliber competition from Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Ohio.
The regular season schedule includes the rivalry game against cross-town foe St. Xavier High School on September 24. The game is recognized as one of the very best high school rivalry football games in the USA.
Trinity will open the fall campaign at home on August 20 versus the Carmel Greyhounds. Carmel is annually one of the strongest high school football programs in the Hoosier State. The Rocks will follow that game with a road trip to Cincinnati Moeller. The Shamrocks and the Crusaders will continue their recent trend of annual football contests. On September 3, Trinity returns to Marshall Stadium to host St. Rita of Cascia from Chicago, IL. The Mustangs are annually one of the top football programs in Illinois 5A football.
In the 4th game of the season, Trinity will host Cincinnati LaSalle. TheLancers advanced to the Ohio Division 2 state semifinals in 2020. Next up is a visit to Male High School. The Bulldogs lost the 6A state championship game to the Shamrocks in December. These teams have played several highly competitive games against one another in recent years.
Trinity will begin the month of October versus another strong Ohio high school football program as the Shamrocks head north to play at Cincinnati St. Xavier. The Bombers are the reigning Ohio Division 1 state champions. Once KHSAA district play begins, Trinity will play at Ballard High School on October 8.
The very next week the Rocks will host St. Mary’s High School of St. Louis, MO. The Dragons reached the Missouri Class 3 state quarterfinals in 2020 before their season was ended due to a COVID quarantine. Trinity will close out district play on October 22 with a home game versus the Eastern Eagles. Week 11, the final week of the regular season, will be an open/bye week for Trinity.
If the Shamrocks can secure a #1 seed in regular season District play, and maintain a high RPI rating throughout the season, Trinity should be in position to host several rounds of KHSAA playoff games at Marshall Stadium.
Director of Athletics Rob Saxton stated, “We certainly hope that the 2021 high school football season feels more normal, for players, coaches, parents and fans. Our schedule is once again both difficult and exciting. Our players and coaches look forward to the challenges it presents from week to week. Playing top teams from Kentucky and surrounding states is the standard for Trinity Football.”
Head coach Jay Cobb said, “The quality of football programs on the schedule is off the charts. Our young men and our coaching staff work year-round to prepare for the rigors of such a schedule. It keeps our juices flowing. We want to be a better team in the last game than in the first game. This schedule will challenge us to get better each week. At the end, our goal remains the same…. play for a state championship in early December in Lexington.”
