Trinity High School’s Director of Athletics Rob Saxton hosted a press conference on January 7 where Coach Bob Beatty announced that he is going to retire from teaching and coaching after this school year.
Coach Beatty’s 21 year run at Trinity was the longest tenure in the program’s history. He recently led the Shamrocks to the school’s 27th football state championship, the 15th during his time as head coach. In addition to excelling on the football sidelines, Coach Beatty is highly respected as a classroom teacher and member of the Trinity faculty (Health and PE).
His overall coaching record in 42 years is 279 – 51 (.845), while his record at Trinity is 254 – 44 (.852). Coach Beatty has been named to the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame (2018), was named as the National Coach of the Year by USA Today (2017), has served as a two-time coach at the US Army All American Bowl game, once as Head Coach (2012, 2013), and led Trinity to a “mythical” national championship (2011).
Coach Beatty’s teams play a highly competitive schedule year in and year out, facing top programs from Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Florida, Pennsylvania, Illinois and more. His teams are also routinely ranked Top 20 in national polls such as USA Today, Max Preps, High School Football America, Catholic Athletes for Christ, and Cal Preps.
He looks forward to retirement with wife Jayne, splitting time between their retirement home in Missouri and return visits to Kentucky where daughter Jennifer, and son David ’05, reside.
“I came to Trinity knowing I was joining a great school with a strong football program. I brought one simple philosophy with me……. Trust the Process. The process is: Develop the athlete, Teach the game, and Focus on those things that you can control. I asked my players and coaches each year; how good do you want to be? I think we were pretty good,” said Coach Bob Beatty.
“My 21 years at Trinity High School and with Trinity Football have been nothing but wonderful. I have worked hard at coaching for over 42 years, but I have loved every moment of it. We are ready for this next chapter in our lives. Trinity won a lot of football games before Bob Beatty and they will win a lot of football games after Bob Beatty.”Coach Bob Beatty
Director of Athletics Rob Saxton stated, “Trinity has had the good fortune of having Bob Beatty serve as our Head Football Coach for the past 21 years. Coach Beatty has delivered excellence in the classroom and on the football field. He has developed young men. He has taught life lessons. His teams have performed at a championship level never before seen in the history of Kentucky high school football. I will miss him. And yet I know that he and Jayne are ready for, and excited about, retirement. We thank them and wish them all the best.”
As is done with every head coach vacancy, Mr. Saxton has already begun the process to find his successor.
Thank you, Coach Beatty! Trinity Forever!
