Each spring, the Trinity High School Alumni Association recognizes a brother alumnus as the year’s Honor Alumnus. The award is presented to a Trinity graduate who is committed to living his life based on Gospel values; who is a recognized leader in his community and/or chosen career; and who values his Trinity education and remains loyal to his alma mater.

A member of the Trinity Class of 1991, Shawn R. Freibert has been selected as the recipient of the 2020 Honor Alumnus Award by the Alumni Board of Directors. The Alumni Board is the governing body of the Trinity Alumni Association. It comprises 15 alumni representing all decades of Trinity’s graduating classes.

Shawn’s father, Jack, is a 1971 Trinity graduate. His mother, Sharon, is an honorary member of the Class of 2006.

Shawn came to Trinity from St. Bernard Catholic School. He immersed himself in life at Trinity and was a stellar student-athlete. He was a four-year member of the baseball and football teams and played defensive back for Trinity’s 1988, ’89 and ’90 football state championship teams, which had a combined 42-0 record and were part of the longest winning streak in Kentucky high school football history. Shawn was honored for his academic excellence by being named an Academic All-State team member. He also was a member of the National Honor Society, earned multiple Shamrock Awards and was a Trinity Scholar.

After graduating from Trinity, Shawn attended the University of Louisville on a baseball scholarship. He was named the Metro Conference Student-Athlete of the Year in 1995. Shawn earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1995 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law in 1998.

Following law school, Shawn was admitted to practice law in Kentucky and Indiana, opened a real estate title company and became a partner with Freibert & Mattingly Title Group, LLC. In 2008, Shawn was named to Business First newspaper’s “Forty Under 40” list.

Shawn is also owner of Global Sports Management Group, LLC, and is certified as a contract advisor by the National Football League Players Association. He has represented several players in the NFL, as well as college and professional football coaches.

Shawn has supported Trinity in many ways, including serving on the Alumni and Foundation boards and leading several Senior Retreats. He was instrumental in assisting the school reach an agreement with the City of St. Matthews for Trinity’s new baseball stadium, which was completed in 2019. Shawn also is a generous contributor to the Annual Fund.

In 2019, Trinity honored Shawn for his service and stewardship by presenting him with the Steiny Award. He also was inducted into the 2019 Trinity Hall of Fame class.

In addition to supporting Trinity, Shawn serves as board president for The Miracle League of Louisville and as a board member of Meredith Dunn School. He formerly served as board vice chair for Families for Effective Autism Treatment (FEAT).

Shawn and his wife, Stacy, have three children – Nicholas (Trinity, 2019); Addison; and Jacob (Trinity, 2028). They are members of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
