Trinity High School Announces 2020 Football Schedule

With hope for a return to high school sports in the fall, and without knowing if and how fall sports schedules might be impacted, Trinity High School, the 2019 KHSAA 6A state champion, and 26-time football state champion, announces its 2020 varsity football schedule (The freshman and JV schedules will be announced later). The schedule will feature top-caliber competition from Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Virginia.

The Football Rocks will host KHSAA 5A state runner up Frederick Douglass High School on Friday, August 14 for a pre-season scrimmage game.

The regular season schedule includes the rivalry game against cross-town foe St. Xavier High School on September 25. The game is recognized as one of the very best high school rivalry football games in the USA.

Trinity will open the fall campaign on the road on August 21 vs the Carmel Greyhounds, Indiana state champions in 2019. Carmel is annually one of the strongest programs in the Hoosier State. The Rocks will follow that game with a home opener in Marshall Stadium vs the Warren Central Warriors, another Indiana power and the 2018 Indiana state champions.

The third game of the season will see Trinity heading north to the Queen City to face the always tough Moeller Crusaders on Saturday night, September 5. Returning home, on September 11, the Rocks will host Life Christian Academy, of Chesterfield, VA. The Eagles are a member school of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association. Next up is a home game with Male High School. The Bulldogs lost the 6A state championship game to the Shamrocks in December. These teams have played several highly competitive games against one another in recent years.

Trinity will begin the month of October with yet another home game as they welcome Cathedral High School of Indianapolis. The Fighting Irish fell in the Indiana 5A quarterfinals in 2019. Once KHSAA district play begins, Trinity will have a home game vs Ballard High School, followed by an open/bye week.District play concludes on October 23 with an away game vs Eastern High School. Regular season play concludes with a home game on Friday, October 30 with Bowling Green High School. The Purples advanced to the KHSAA 5A state semifinals in 2019.

If the Shamrocks can secure a #1 seed in regular season District play, and maintain a high RPI rating throughout the season, Trinity should be in position to host several rounds of KHSAA playoff games at Marshall Stadium.

Director of Athletics Rob Saxton stated, “As we continue to support the restrictions that are in place for the health and welfare of Trinity students, families and the community as a whole, we are also excited about our 2020 varsity football schedule. The schedule is filled with opponents that traditionally compete at the highest levels in their respective states. Our coaches and players look forward to the challenge. Trinity fans will be treated to top notch football week in and week out. Our lineup of home games is off the charts.”

Head coach Bob Beatty said, “While recognizing the seriousness of the pandemic, we eagerly await the opportunity to return to campus for off-season workouts and conditioning. Our coaches and players will work hard to prepare for a 2020 schedule that is second to none. We look forward to another season of Trinity Football.  Our goal remains the same…. play for a state championship in early December in Lexington.”
