Trinity Library Media Specialist Presents at State Conference!

Trinity Library Media Specialist Tim Jones was recently recognized as one of nine “featured speakers” at the Kentucky Association of School Librarians Summer Refresher!

Jones presented two sessions at the conference:

  • Let This “Dynamic Duo” Answer Your Graphic Novel Questions (co-presented with English teacher and literacy coach Mitch Greenwell)

Co-presenter Mich Greenwell loved learning new ways to engage his students. “The conference was a chance to see a cutting edge school and hear the newest strategies and techniques used by librarians to engage students. Presenting gave me the chance to share what I love to a group of people who truly ‘get it.'”

  • Teaching Media Literacy in a “Post-Truth” World (in collaboration with communications consultant Meggan Taylor Trevey)

Jones was incredibly honored to be a featured speaker this year.

I’ve presented at the refresher before, but being a featured speaker was a real honor. I have a lot of respect for the others also featured, because they’re library rock stars, so it meant a lot. I love presenting topics I’m passionate about. The graphic novel is a fun one for me, but the media literacy session is especially relevant today, and it’s one that I really try to get right, because it’s no longer enough to just direct people to credible sources. There are huge trust issues. So I focused my presentation on how to frame media literacy lessons more effectively and what media trends (such as memes and others) pose special challenges for media consumers of all ages. The whole day was so productive!

On top of being recognized as a “featured speaker” at the state-wide conference, Jones will also be presenting both sessions again at the 2019 AASL National Conference on Friday, November 15!

“I am very excited about presenting here! I am one of only two librarians from the entire state of Kentucky selected to present multiple sessions at AASL. Overall, there are only 27 individuals across the entire country presenting more than one session at the 2019 AASL National Conference.”

We’re so proud to have you, Mr. Jones! GreaT job!
