Trinity Partners with Water With Blessings for House Service Project

Water With Blessings Service Project

This year, Trinity’s House System has decided to place equal emphasis on academic achievement, character development, Christian service, leadership development and friendly competition. These together will form the three pillars of the House System: Brotherhood, Faith and Character.

The primary benefits of the House System include assisting students to feel like they belong at THS faster than anything we ever tried before, building a school spirit that lasts the entire year, and connecting students and teachers in healthy and important ways.

As a part of the Faith pillar, Trinity partnered with Water With Blessings for a House service project. WWB helps provide clean drinking water to people all over the world. The organization supplies water filtration systems to mothers who help provide clean drinking water for their communities. Trinity had several service project goals:

Education: Students learned more about Water with Blessings and how to help promote the service project.

Collection: Advising groups donated money to help sponsor Water Women.

Outreach: Student volunteers helped construct Sawyer PointONE filters.

Throughout the month of September, each of these goals provided an action plan allowing students to get involved within their House while building their faith and character.

Education: Sister Larraine Lauter OSU, Trinity’s 2021 Peace Medalist, from Water with Blessings visited Trinity during Advising to share her organization’s mission of “providing clean water for God’s thirsty children” with students. Those students who attended the educational session presented the details of the service project to their Advising groups.

Collection: From Sept. 13 through Sept. 23, Houses took up collections during Advising. The goal was to have each House collect enough money to sponsor six water women. The Water Women then “pay it forward” by filtering water for three other families. $75 per Advising group to sponsor one Water Woman, which provides clean water for four families. $450 per House to sponsor six Water Women, which provides clean water for 24 families.

Outreach: At the beginning of October, Sister Larraine Lauter OSU, from Water With Blessings, visited Trinity again during Advising to educate students on how they can further assist the organization. Students had the opportunity to help assemble the components of the Sawyer PointONE filters that the Water Women will be equipped with to provide clean drinking water for their communities.

RESULTS: Thanks to the generous donations from Trinity students and faculty, we surpassed our goal by 141%! We sponsored 85 Water Women, helping to provide clean water for 340 families!
