Trinity’s Mr. Stephen Hammer, who teaches engineering and design and aerospace science, was named Teacher of the Year by the Air Force Association, General Russell E. Dougherty, Chapter #407.
“To be perfectly honest, I was shocked when I found out I had been nominated. A former colleague and research partner nominated me. The award is given annually to STEM teachers in the state, and winners are compared for a national award. I was awarded as the district winner. As this year’s winner, I was granted honorary membership to the organization, and will assist in the selection process of next year’s winner.”
Steve recently joined the Chapter’s Executive Board meeting for lunch and shared the opportunities and challenges with the current teaching environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The group seemed eager to see the lab (at Trinity), so hopefully we can host them some time in the near future. I think our students can eventually benefit from this because the award also came with a membership to the Civil Air Patrol, which will provide a wide range of potential curriculum additions and information to the aerospace classes.”
GreaT job, Steve!
