Trinity High School, the 2023 reigning 6A football state champion and 28-time KHSAA football state champion, announces its 2024 varsity football schedule (The freshman and JV schedules will be announced later). The schedule will feature top-caliber competition from Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.
The regular season schedule includes the rivalry game against cross-town foe St. Xavier High School on September 27. The game is recognized as one of the very best high school rivalry football games in the USA.
Trinity will conduct a home varsity football scrimmage on August 10 versus Springfield High School (OH). Springfield finished the 2023 football season as state runner-up in Ohio.
The Rocks open the fall campaign in Lexington on August 23 against the Bryan Station Defenders. Trinity defeated Bryan Station in last year’s 6A state championship game. Trinity will follow that game with another road game at Frederick Douglass High School. The Broncos lost to the Rocks in a 2023 KHSAA state semifinal game that went to overtime.
On September 6, Trinity will open its 2024 home schedule in Marshall Stadium against Center Grove High School (IN). The Trojans are a perennial power across Indiana high school football.
In the 4th game of the season, Trinity will travel north to face the Carmel Greyhounds (IN). Carmel is one of the top football programs in Indiana year in and year out. Next up is a home game with the Male Bulldogs. The Rocks and Bulldogs have gone head-to-head in several highly competitive games in recent years.
On October 4, Trinity will host the Bombers of Cincinnati St. Xavier High School (OH), a program with a rich football history and always one of the strongest teams in Ohio.
The next week Trinity begins KHSAA District play with a home game versus the Ballard Bruins. To close out regular season games, Trinity will be on the road twice: October 18 at Eastern High School and October 25 at Oldham County High School. Week 11, the final week of the regular season, will be an open/bye week for Trinity.
If the Shamrocks can secure a #1 seed in regular season District play and maintain a high RPI rating throughout the season, Trinity should be in position to host several rounds of KHSAA 6A playoff games at Marshall Stadium.

Head coach Jay Cobb said, “Our football team will enter this season knowing last year’s success was a product of hard work and continual improvement, led by a group of seniors who never gave in. The challenge for our returning players is to carry that same attitude, effort and focus forward to the 2024 season. As always, the schedule is one that will ready us for our primary goal, which is to play for another state championship in early December in Lexington.”
