This week’s profile is about John Kinney '10.

John Kinney

John Kinney excelled at Trinity and has done so in life.

John was raised in Oldham County and came to Trinity from St. Francis School in Goshen. He immediately became active in Trinity campus life as a student-athlete.

John served as a Seton House captain and was a member of the National Honor Society and the National Beta Club. He also was the student representative on the Principal’s Staff, played soccer and was a four-year member of the swimming team, earning Scholastic All-American honors his senior year.

Upon graduating from Trinity in 2010, John attended Xavier University in Cincinnati on a swimming scholarship. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2014 and went to work in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry. John is currently a senior territory manager for Neurelis, Inc., a neuroscience company focused on novel therapies for unmet needs in neurology and epilepsy.

John remembers the impact his teachers and coaches had on his life. One of his favorite teachers was Wayne Kraus ’85.

“I had a lot of great teachers, but I truly appreciated Mr. Kraus and both his communication skills and accounting classes,” John said. “Some of those lessons still stick with me today.”

“Get involved early and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone,” John said when asked for his advice for this year’s freshmen. “Trinity has so much to offer, and the more you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it. Try new things, meet different people, and take pride in being part of something bigger than yourself. These four years will go by fast so make them count.”

Senior year stands out for John as a year of tremendous growth. He pushed himself to get more involved, try new things and build lifelong friendships.

For seniors, John has the following advice:

“Take a moment to appreciate how far you’ve come — and the brotherhood you’ve built along the way. Senior year flies by, so soak it all in. But also start thinking about the kind of man you want to be after graduation. Trinity has given you a solid foundation. Now it’s on you to carry those values forward. Stay grounded, stay connected, and don’t be afraid to keep growing. And before you go, make sure you give back — whether it’s helping an underclassman, leading by example or simply making sure others have the same positive experience you did.”

Trinity is one of the cornerstones of John’s life. It helped set the foundation for who he is today, both personally and professionally.

“Trinity prepared me for the next chapters in life by teaching me discipline, faith, leadership and the importance of relationships,” John said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to have walked those hallways, learned from great teachers and grown alongside lifelong friends. The values I learned at Trinity still guide me today. I am always proud to say where I went to high school.”

John also is a loyal donor to the Trinity Annual Fund for financial aid. Additionally, his annual gift of $250 or more makes him a member of the Young Alumni Shamrock Society for alumni who graduated in the last 15 years. The Young Alumni Shamrock Society is a giving society for the Annual Fund and hosts social events for young alumni.

“I give to the annual fund because I’m grateful for what Trinity gave me,” John said. “It played a huge role in shaping who I am. Some of my closest friendships, most important life lessons and best memories started there. To me, Trinity represents excellence and brotherhood, rooted in the values of the Catholic Church. Men of faith and men of character. Giving back feels like the right way to help keep that tradition alive for future generations.”

John and his wife, Allison, have a daughter, Claire, 2 They have been married for four years. Allison attended Notre Dame Academy in Northern Kentucky and Bellarmine University. John and his family are members of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
