Join us for “Rock Reflections,” a series celebrating Trinity alumni. From 48 states to countries worldwide, our graduates are making an impact, and we'll share their stories on Trinity's website and social media.
This week, we’re reflecting with Scott Roby '90

A Catholic education was important to Scott Roby ’90 and his family. Scott came to Trinity from Ascension Catholic School, following in the footsteps of his older brother, Billy Roby ’88. Scott’s younger brother, the late Brian Roby ’96, also attended Trinity, and his sister, Karen (Sacred Heart, 1994), was a Trinity cheerleader. Scott’s mother, Mary Jane, attended Sacred Heart Academy. His father, Bill Sr., attended St. Xavier High School and is a longtime supporter of Catholic schools overall and the Catholic Education Foundation, which raises funds for Catholic grade schools.
Scott immediately poured himself into Trinity life. He was a member of the National Honor Society and participated in track and field, earning Academic All-State honors as a junior. Additionally, Scott earned Shamrock Awards for his academic success. He served as Student Council president his senior year and was a senior retreat leader. Scott was honored by his classmates at their senior prom with the coveted Mr. Trinity Shammy Award.
“I remember my Trinity days as being filled with laughter,” Scott said. “We worked hard and our teachers and coaches were amazing. They led us as my classmates and I grew up together.”
Scott remembers his favorite teachers: Dave Aberli ’75, Tom Dubay H’94, Mike Hamilton H’96, Rev. Joe Hemmerle, Dennis Lampley H’92, Bruce Lynch, Rob Mullen ’77, and Rev. Dave Zettel ’58.
“All of them were dedicated and caring people,” Scott said. “You could tell they absolutely loved teaching. They were true educators. Trinity taught me that it was okay to just always be me. I believe that aside from my incredible parents, Trinity instilled the best values in me – values I try to live each day.”
Scott also remembers the fun of lunchtime with friends. "We had fun together. Our class enjoyed being around one another and there was always plenty of laughter," he said.
Scott is thankful for his Trinity experience being instrumental in his life – then and now.
“Trinity’s academic organization and rigorous structure prepared me for college and law school,” Scott said. “Probably more importantly, Trinity taught me how to treat people.”
After graduating from Trinity in 1990, Scott attended the University of Kentucky, earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1994. He then attended the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, graduating in 1997. Scott’s first job out of law school was as a prosecutor for the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office. He also worked as a state prosecutor. In 2000, Scott founded Scott Roby Law Office. He has a background in criminal-defense law from his time as a prosecutor and specializes in plaintiffs’ injury law.
“I continue to support Trinity because it continues to get better every year,” Scott said. “We have such a strong alumni base and talented faculty and staff. The campus is beautiful and expanding. As Student Council president, I also attended Trinity School Board meetings in 1990. I remember plans for Sherrin Avenue being discussed, and now it’s happening. I’m very proud to be a Trinity graduate.”
Scott and his wife, Jill, have been married for 26 years. They have two children, Jessica (Sacred Heart, 2020) and Jake, both of whom are attending the U of L Brandeis School of Law. Scott and Jill are members of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
