Join us for “Rock Reflections,” a series celebrating Trinity alumni. From 48 states to countries worldwide, our graduates are making an impact, and we'll share their stories on Trinity's website and social media.
This week, we’re reflecting with Chad Hennessey '94

Chad Hennessey is grateful for his Trinity experience. It shaped him and he and his family have helped shape our alma mater to what it is today.
“I was born a rock, truly raised to love Trinity and was proud to carry on such a family tradition,” Chad said.
There have been Hennesseys at Trinity since 1965 when Chad’s late father, Alan Hennessey ’69, enrolled. The Hall of Famer was the star tailback on Trinity’s first football state championship team in 1968. Alan went on to serve Trinity in countless ways for decades. Chad followed in his footsteps.
Additionally, Chad’s uncle, Don (1970); brothers, Andy (1998) and Alex (2002); and cousin Ryan (1998) are Trinity alumni. Don’s grandchildren, Connor (2024) and Ryan (2025), are alumni. Chad’s nephew Tyler is a Trinity junior. Chad and his wife, Cindy Mohr Hennessey (Assumption, 1995), have a son who is an alumnus, Hunter (2022), and a future Rock, Hudson (2033).
Chad is an Alumni Class Agent and former chair of the Trinity Alumni Association. He served on the Board for seven years, two as chair. He has been an Open House volunteer, Alumni Phonathon caller and class reunion planner. He regularly attends Trinity events and is a donor to the Annual Fund for financial aid.
“I’m happy to give what I can each year,” Chad said. “More than 40 percent of Trinity students receive financial aid, so it’s crucial to many of our families.”
Chad came to Trinity from St. Gabriel Catholic School in Fern Creek. He participated in a variety of activities and sports, including cross country as a freshman, track as a sophomore, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, all intramurals and Trinity Television as a senior.
Chad remembers Trinity being a welcoming place.
“From day one, I felt like I truly belonged,” he said. “It was school, and there was the grind that high school brings. But there was a sense of being a part of something that is bigger than yourself. It’s a strong legacy that still has a daily effect on me. Trinity is truly an extended family. I learned so many life lessons there. The sense of home I felt at Trinity is there as much now at age 50 as when I was a 17-year-old student.”
Part of that legacy for Chad was Senior Retreat and the overall Trinity experience.
“Senior Retreat week stands out and will always be special for many reasons,” he said. “In addition to that, the practices and intramural games, supporting all the sports and being in the hallways and class with my brothers and classmates was unforgettable.”
Among Chad’s favorite teachers were Rev. Kevin Caster H’93, Gene Eckert ’62, Joe Fowler ’71, Dennis Lampley H’92, Mike Magre ’83 and Joey Porter ’78.
After graduating from Trinity in 1994, Chad attended Western Kentucky University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1998. He then accepted a corporate job in Louisville. Two years later, he joined his father’s full-service insurance business, Insuramax, as an agent. He recently celebrated his 26th anniversary at the company.
He had not planned on working with his father.
“It’s funny; I truly never thought I would work with Dad, but after working a corporate job for two years and seeing how some of corporate America worked, the pull to utilize my family network and local connections to help his business made too much sense,” Chad said. “I haven’t looked back. I enjoyed being with Dad every day and was blessed to work with him for more than 25 years. Several other Trinity alumni have also worked there over the years. Paul Allison [’89] has been with us for more than 20 years.”
Outside of family, work and his Trinity involvement, Chad serves on Down Syndrome of Louisville’s board. He formerly chaired St. Gabriel’s school board. He also rocks out to heavy metal, especially Metallica.
Chad and Cindy were high school sweethearts and have been married for 27 years. In addition to their sons, Hunter and Hudson, they have two daughters, Hannah, 25 (Assumption, 2019), and Hayden, 17 (Assumption, 2027). Chad and his family are members of St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
