Join us for our weekly “Rock Reflections,” a series celebrating Trinity alumni. From all 50 states to countries worldwide, our graduates are making an impact, and we'll share their stories on Trinity's website and social media.
This week’s profile is about Andrew Volkovitskiy '15
Andrew Volkovitskiy swapped a big, green Trinity “T” for a big, orange Tennessee “T.” After graduating from Trinity in 2015, he attended the University of Tennessee, earning a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering. He recently earned his MBA at Bellarmine University.
Andrew came to Trinity from Crosby Middle School. He’s a second generation American; his parents are from Belarus. Andrew’s brother, Anthony, graduated from Trinity in 2020.
To say Andrew was active as a Trinity student is an understatement. His list of extracurricular activities is long: Toussaint House; Trinity Theater Technical Crew; Math League; National Honor Society; National Beta Club; ACE Mentoring Club; Electronics Club; Green Cross Club; Kentucky United Nations Assembly; Kentucky Youth Advocates; and wrestling. He received several Shamrock Awards for his academic success.
Andrew named former Trinity history teacher and assistant football coach Andrew Coverdale H’07 as one of his favorite instructors.
“Mr. Coverdale taught me AP European and AP World History,” Andrew said. “He was a great teacher who obviously loved teaching.”
Being a member of the Theater Department Technical Crew, which designs and constructs sets, also impacted Andrew.
“I really enjoyed the freedom we were given, and we learned a lot of skills,” Andrew recalled. “It was very hands-on, and we learned a lot – how to paint and use power tools, for example. During the shows, we kept the sets working. There was a lot of thinking on your feet to keep the show going.
“It was a very enjoyable time. I loved the camaraderie among the cast and the crew. Rehearsals could go late, so we had to trust each other and work together.”
During his college years, Andrew had several internships at Dominion Energy. Upon graduation, he started a full-time position with the company as a site engineer at Surry Nuclear Power Station near Surry, Virginia. In 2024, he accepted a position at Vogt Power International, Inc., which designs, manufactures and supplies heat recovery steam generators and aftermarket services for the natural gas industry. Andrew is a proposal sales engineer.
Andrew has been active with the Alumni Association as a Class Agent and as a volunteer Alumni Phonathon caller. His annual gift of $250 or more makes him a member of the Young Alumni Shamrock Society.
“I give to Trinity financial aid because Trinity helped jumpstart my life,” Andrew said. “There were so many opportunities. You can achieve your goals there. You can start your future life at Trinity. I want to see incoming freshmen and all students have that experience.”
Andrew references financial guru Dave Ramsey in explaining his advice for alumni who might like to make a gift to the Trinity Annual Fund for financial aid.
“Once you get your life in order, be sure to give back,” Andrew said. “Trinity really helped me get my life in order, and I’m happy to help young men be able to experience Trinity.”
Andrew and his wife, Terry, have a daughter, Aleksandra, who is one month old. They have been married almost two years and are members of St. Michael Orthodox Church.
