SJOA Burial - O'Bannon

The following comes from Mr. Chris Luken H'24, Trinity Theology Teacher and Assistant Campus Minister:

This is a reflection of the good work we do and the impact we make that can often go unseen especially in the midst of our busy, daily lives.

Mike Domzalski and I went with a group of exempt seniors to attend a St. Joseph of Arimathea burial Wednesday, December 17, at River Valley Cemetery off Cane Run Road yesterday. What made this burial unique was that it was for a Trinity graduate. Michael O'Bannon was a 1979 graduate of Trinity who attended St. Edward grade school and played football at Trinity as a freshman and sophomore. A nephew was the only surviving family member who could be located, but he couldn't be in attendance. The story he gave was that Michael was preceded in death by his parents and other siblings at a young age. A series of bad life choices haunted him after graduating Trinity.

SJOA Burial - O'Bannon

Our students, Gavin Scott, Griffin Brunstetter, Griffin Frederick, CJ Taylor, Austin Goodloe, and Kyle Schofield, led the service and served as pall bearers. They were joined by 2025 graduate Toby Rauen who was a part of SJOAS while at Trinity. Mike Domzalski gave the reflection highlighting the strength and importance of the Trinity Brotherhood.

In the midst of exams, storing Rockspace courses, and entering comments, we can sometimes forget our larger mission of forming men of faith and men of character. These six (6) seniors and one (1) graduate are proof positive that all our efforts in the classroom and examples of living as people of faith and character are seen and taken to heart. I tell our alumni who lead senior retreats that the retreat process is about planting seeds and not harvesting crops. Some of the students we work with get it, and we know we get it. Some of our students are seeds that will lay dormant, and we can only hope and trust that one day the crop will harvested.

Merry Christmas and Trinity Forever!
