Matthew McGrail

McGrail played tennis at Henderson County and has a degree from the University of Kentucky. He has strong ties to the Louisville tennis community and is a well-respected tennis instructor of all ages. McGrail has built a reputation for player development, professionalism, and a genuine passion for the sport.

McGrail remarked, “It is an immense honor to be named Head Coach of one of the Commonwealth's most prestigious and historically successful tennis programs. I feel extraordinarily lucky and blessed to be given the opportunity to steer this ship along its future course and to get to know and work with our student-athletes, their families, and our administration. We will develop our student-athletes into more complete players and more successful individuals, and we will do so with great honor, dignity, and character both on and off the court.”

McGrail brings a player-first approach rooted in skill development, accountability, and competitive growth. His experience working with athletes across multiple levels has prepared him to guide Trinity Tennis with energy and purpose.

Director of Athletics Sean Duggins ’04 remarked, “We’re excited to welcome Matthew McGrail as our next Head Tennis Coach. Matthew is well known and highly regarded in the local tennis community, and his reputation as a teacher of the game stood out throughout our process. He brings professionalism, credibility, passion, and a clear vision for where he wants to take our tennis program.”

Duggins continued, “As we evaluated our needs, we were looking for someone who could develop student-athletes, build relationships, and lead with integrity. Matthew checks all those boxes. We’re confident he will be a great fit for our student-athletes and for Trinity as a whole.”
