2026 TRINITY PEACE MEDAL

PRESENTED TO

MRS. JOYCE CURRY

The Trinity High School community has awarded the Trinity Peace Medal at its graduation ceremony for over 50 years. The award recognizes a deserving individual or group for efforts that promote peacemaking, justice building and service to others. Mr. Klaus Mittelsten H’92, who at the time was chair of Trinity’s Foreign Language Department, initiated the award, along with then-Trinity principal Rev. Thomas Duerr H’92. Recent recipients have included Eddie Woods Jr., PhD., Annette Mandley-Turner, Sister Larraine Lauter OSU, Mr. Buddy Dumeyer H’94, Ms. Karina Barillas H’21, the Little Sisters of the Poor, and Tom Dubay H’94.

The 2026 Trinity Peace Medal is awarded to Joyce Curry.

Joyce Curry was born and raised in Louisville. After a brief stint in the corporate world, she felt a calling to volunteer and began a life of service to others. In 1994 she began volunteering at the pre-school and library at St. Rose School, and in 1998 she began volunteering at St. Edward School. This began Joyce’s call to serve others and led her to become involved with numerous service agencies in Louisville. In 2003 she started her first non-profit, Operation Support Peace, to support military and their families. Since 2003, Operation Support Peace has sent thousands of care packages to soldiers deployed overseas. The agency has also provided numerous care packages for low-income military families in Kentucky as well as thousands of Christmas presents for children of low-income military families.

In 1996 Joyce began working with Valentines for Vets, a program in which students make valentine cards for vets in the VA hospital and then deliver them in person and spend time with vets who do not have anyone to be with them. This program expanded to include Veterans Day and Christmas.

In 2013 Joyce was hired by St. Stephen Martyr to strengthen community service opportunities for students. She introduced Give-A-Day of Service at St. Stephen where students began making blessing bags for cancer patients in memory of her sister-in-law who lost her battle with breast cancer. In this program, student ambassadors are chosen to deliver the blessing bags, talking to doctors and nurses and visiting with cancer patients. Over the last 12 years, over 3,500 blessing bags have been delivered to local cancer patients.

In 2020 Joyce started Help for the Homeless, which encouraged young people to do research on homelessness in Louisville and become advocates and collect items for local shelters. Last year two students in the program collected over 3,000 items for the Schuhmann Center at St. Martin’s.

Joyce has volunteered at Fern Creek Highview United Ministries since 2012, packing food boxes and providing service opportunities for young people who collect and distribute food and school supplies to the less fortunate in person, helping young people to see those who are less fortunate face to face and to recognize the dignity we all have being created in the image of God.

In 2014 Joyce was elected President of the Board of Directors of Fern Creek Highview United Ministries, which is a joint ministry of 23 churches, a position she still holds today. She continues to be involved with St. Edward parish, serving on the bereavement committee. She has been married to her husband Jim, pastor at St. Stephen Anglican Church, for 38 years. Joyce and Jim have one daughter, Sarah. In her free time, Joyce loves music, reading, and having game nights with family and friends.

For her lifelong commitment to serving a wide array of people in need, Trinity is proud to present this year’s Peace Medal to Joyce Curry.

Trinity President James Torra H’12 will present the award.
