This week, we’re reflecting with Kevin Rueff '06
Kevin Rueff graduated from Trinity in 2006, but he returned as a volunteer and donor and has made an impact.
Kevin came to Trinity from St. Margaret Mary Catholic School. His parents permitted him to make the decision as to where to attend high school.
“My dad went to Atherton High School, so he left the choice up to me,” Kevin said. “I shadowed at Trinity along with several other schools, and I just felt most at home at Trinity.”
Kevin was a member of Becket House and played baseball for four years. A left-handed pitcher, Kevin was part of the 2005 Seventh Region Championship team that made it to the state tournament.
“I have a lot of great memories from my time on the baseball team,” Kevin said. “Going to the state tournament my junior year was a highlight. The bus trips with the guys were so fun with Coach Tompkins [Steven Tompkins ’81] keeping us in line from the driver’s seat. We also had fun spring break trips to play in Memphis.”
Kevin remembers daily life at Trinity as exciting. He also recalls a beloved weekly lunch treat: chicken patty day.
“Lunchtimes were fun, and chicken patty day was always a hit,” he said. “Everyone liked chicken patty day. I don’t know how they made it, but it was so good.”
“I remember being with classmates, juggling getting to class on time and socializing in the hallways,” he continued “The teachers always cared and there just seemed like there was always so much to do.”
Assistant baseball coach Jeff Becker ’90, Steven Tompkins, Ed Bowling and the late Kenny Ellenbrand H’07 were some of Kevin’s favorite teachers.
“I still get to chat with Coach Becker when I go to a Trinity baseball game,” Kevin said. He has been such a steady staple for the freshman team for so many years. Coach Tompkins had such great energy and leadership qualities. He was fun, but disciplined, and had such great knowledge and passion for the game. That came through to his players.
Like many alumni, Kevin’s senior retreat experience was pivotal.
“Being able to open up and hear classmate’s stories made us appreciate each other more. You never know what someone is going through. That lesson has always stuck with me.”
After Trinity, Kevin attended Georgetown College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, marketing and management. He worked as a loan officer for several years before embarking on a banking career. In 2014, he started as a personal banker at U.S. Bank in Louisville. He also attended the licensing program in the bank’s wealth department.
Five years later, Kevin joined Forcht Bank as a banking officer, focusing on residential and commercial lending. He helped open the bank’s St. Matthews branch.
In 2024, he transitioned to Fifth Third Bank where he specializes in business banking.
Wanting to give back to Trinity, Kevin became an alumni Class Agent. He volunteered for alumni and school events, participated in the annual Alumni Phonathon and attended Alumni Business Circle luncheons.
Kevin was having a great and meaningful experience as a Class Agent, but he wanted to be even more involved. He joined the Alumni Board of Directors, which is the governing body of the Alumni Association. Kevin is one of 15 board members and will serve as Board secretary for 2026-27. He also works closely with the Foundation Office to plan Alumni Business Circle events and participates in community service projects.
“I’ve enjoyed serving on the Alumni Board the last four years,” Kevin said. I look forward to events like the Alumni Golf Scramble, Emerald Society Brunch and Alumni Business Circle luncheons. As an alumnus, it’s a great network and has helped me get jobs and make professional relationships. I feel lucky to have an alma mater that puts such great focus on alumni events and making sure guys stay connected with the school.”
Kevin’s family also is involved. He and his wife, Katie (Sacred Heart, 2006), have been married for nine years and have two children, Jackson, 6, and Remi, 4.
“Lately, I’ve enjoyed bringing my kids to games or events like the Trinity Family Easter Egg Hunt. Trinity is a place that I continue to be proud of, and I want to share that with my family.”
Kevin is a supporter of the Trinity Annual Fund for financial aid. Over 43% of Trinity students receive financial aid, so it’s crucial to many families.
“I support Trinity because I believe in its mission,” he said. “I’m always impressed by our ambition to constantly improve. I want to give back to a place that has had such a positive impact on my life in so many ways. It was a place that taught discipline and accountability and pushed you to have high standards for yourself. It felt special and exciting from the beginning and introduced me to a community of brothers that feels like family to this day.”
Kevin and his family attend St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. His brothers, Jon and Colin, also are Trinity alumni, graduating in 2009 and 2013, respectively. Kevin and Jon played baseball on the same team at Georgetown College. Additionally, Kevin’s father-in-law, Gary Raque, graduated in 1977.
