Noah Higgs, a senior at Trinity and a member of the Culinary Club, is taking his class’s senior theme of “Strive to Serve” and turning it into action. Noah recently approached Ms. Kiefer and the Culinary Club about an idea he had to serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the homeless communities in Louisville.

“Over the past few summers, I have volunteered at various food pantries and soup kitchens. I helped at Sister Visitor Food Pantry, the Cathedral of the Assumption Lunch Program, and the Saint Matthews Area Ministries. During my hours of service, I realized that, while I was glad to help throughout the summer, I knew there had to be ways to do more during the school year. I've been a member of the culinary club for several years and thought the club would be a great starting point to do something food-related to help.

When I presented the idea to Ms. Kiefer, I was reassured by her excitement for the project. She helped me work through some of the logistics and get it approved. She also found a way to get it funded for the rest of the year. I am so thankful to the members who stayed after our meeting and helped my idea become a reality. With the help of Trinity’s Culinary Club, we were able to make almost 100 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to take to Wayside Christian Mission!

I am grateful that Trinity focuses on brotherhood, and throughout my four years, I have made a lot of great friendships, discovered the importance of community, and learned to value and respect serving others. Our theme this year is "Strive to Serve" and it inspired me to go forward with this idea.”
