Re: Scinta STEM Center and Sherrin Ave Updates

If you have driven past or onto campus lately, you may have noticed that construction on the Scinta STEM Career Center is progressing at an impressive pace.

Interior framing is nearly complete, windows are being installed, and electrical conduits are being run alongside water lines. This week installation of storefront glass along Sherrin Avenue has begun, complementing the siding that is currently going up on the opposite side of the building. Construction of the stairwell and elevator tower is also well underway.

Every time I walk through the construction area, I get more excited about the opportunities the Scinta STEM Career Center will provide for our students.

The project will expand our current 1,500-square-foot STEM lab to 10,000 square feet, while also providing 10,000 square feet for our Art program. Even more importantly, it will give our students access to equipment and technology typically found only on college campuses and in professional settings, while also enhancing their critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

If the weather cooperates and construction continues at this pace, we hope to have a clearer roadmap for completion in early October.

Our goal remains to begin holding classes in the Scinta STEM Career Center during the second semester.

Sherrin Avenue Construction – PLEASE READ

As part of this ongoing project, construction is also planned along Sherrin Avenue.

Because of our strong partnership with the City of St. Matthews, the city has agreed to grant Trinity possession of the road. This will allow us to add additional layers of protection for the students, faculty, and staff who use this access way every school day.

Please see below for important updates:

Monday, September 28:

• Milling of the north end of Sherrin Avenue will begin adjacent to the STEM Center. Campus access will remain open, although the street surface will be temporarily altered. Traffic control will be in place each morning and afternoon, and signage will be added designating rough pavement ahead. Please use extra caution when entering campus from Westport Road.

Saturday, October 3:

• The north end of Sherrin Avenue will be closed while new underground drainage systems are installed. Campus access will remain open from Shelbyville Road.

During Fall Break:

• We plan to install speed humps along Sherrin Avenue to help control traffic. We have also added additional crosswalk signage and reduced the speed limit to 15 mph. Each of these measures represents another step toward enhancing the safety of our Trinity community.

• Additionally, at the north-end intersection of Sherrin Avenue and Westport Road, we will add dedicated right- and left-turn lanes for vehicles departing campus.

• This work will require portions of Sherrin Avenue to close at various times during Fall Break. Throughout construction, campus access will remain available via Shelbyville Road during the day and from both ends of Sherrin Avenue in the evenings.

As construction plans continue to take shape and work progresses, we will share additional reminders and updates. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through these transformational improvements to our campus.
